The phrase “visa pause” has caused understandable concern among employment-based immigrants. But it is important to distinguish between several different parts of the immigration process.
A Department of State pause announced in January 2026 affected immigrant visa issuance for nationals of 75 countries. That pause ended on August 21, 2026 pursuant to a federal court order. It should not be confused with separate nationality-based restrictions that may remain in effect.
