Immigration and Nationality
The Law Offices of Fogam & Associates has been practicing immigration law since 1996. We have represented individual and families from all over the world in immigration matters. We have also represented many corporations and businesses in the United States. The Principal of our office, Attorney Edwin K. Fogam, is himself an immigrant with vast international experience as well as a firm grasp of U.S. immigration law.
Immigration law is quite complex inasmuch as it involves many government agencies and requires the understanding of numerous federal rules and regulations. For example the fact that you are genuinely married to a United States citizen does not automatically enable you to become a legal resident in the United States. You do not only have to file the necessary papers but must also prove that your marriage was entered into in good faith. Similarly, although you may have entered the United States with a non-immigrant visa valid for 1, 2, 3 or even 5 years and allowing multiple entries, you will be illegal if you stay continuously beyond the time period authorized at the port of entry. There are many of these “traps” in immigration matters.
As a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, our office keeps abreast with immigration law issues so as to provide our clients with outstanding representation. Whether you are seeking permanent resident status (green card), asylum, citizenship or you are in immigration proceedings fighting removal from the United States; our experienced lawyers may be able to help you. We have handled challenging and complex deportation and removal proceedings before the immigration courts, Board of Immigration Appeals and Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. We have secured the release of aliens from immigration custody, obtained cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, citizenship and voluntary departure for our clients. We have obtained fraud and criminal waivers and have used the writ of error coram nobis to vacate criminal convictions for our clients and render them eligible for an immigration relief. Our business clients have been satisfied with our services in helping them with employment based non-immigrant visas as well as employment based immigrant visas such as Alien Labor Certification and National Interest Waivers.
